Zoho CRM has introduced two updates to CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) that make it far easier to see the effect of a rule while a quote is still being built. Reps can now test pricing outcomes before the record is complete, and cross-sell suggestions surface earlier in the process rather than only appearing once a quote has already been saved.
Until now, CPQ rules only fired when a record was saved. This created two limitations for anyone building a quote:
Suggested products had a similar restriction. They only appeared after saving, by which point the quote was effectively finished, leaving little room to act on the cross-sell prompt without reopening the record.
An Apply CPQ Rules button now sits beneath the line items subform on the create and edit pages of supported modules. Selecting it triggers CPQ to evaluate the quote immediately, running both Product Configurator rules and Price Rules, with the outcome shown in a review pop-up.
This can be done before the account name or any other field has been filled in. Being able to check the cost of a configuration using only the line items is most useful early on, while the right combination of products is still being worked out with the customer and the rest of the record remains empty.
In the past, the only way to bring CPQ's changes into a quote was to complete the save. Now, once the Apply CPQ Rules button has been used, any changes are written into the subform straight away and editing can continue. A rep can add another line item, run through a guided selling flow, change a quantity, and apply the rules again, all without anything being written to the actual record until it is finally saved.
In effect, quoting becomes a loop that can be run as many times as needed: try a configuration, review the price, adjust the quantity to reach the next volume tier, and apply the rules once more to check the result.
Suggested products were previously only visible on the record detail page after a quote had been saved. They now appear within the same review pop-up used for CPQ rules.
Cross-sell prompts that only surface after a record is saved create extra work for sales reps, since they have to reopen the quote to act on them. Showing these suggestions while the quote is still being built makes it more likely that reps will actually use them.
