If two business processes are similar, cloning an existing Blueprint saves you rebuilding the stages, transitions, and details from scratch for the new one.
How to clone a Blueprint
- Open Blueprint. Go to Setup, then Process Management, then Blueprint.
- Start cloning. Hover over the Blueprint you want to clone, then click More, then Clone.
- Name it. Enter a name for the new Blueprint.
- Choose the layout. Select which layout the cloned Blueprint should apply to, either the same layout or a different one in the same module.
- Choose the field. Select the field the Blueprint should be based on.
- Handle the states. If your new process has extra stages, click Create New States to add them. If both processes have the same number of states, click Map Your Existing States to New States to line up the original Blueprint's stages with the new one.
- Clone. Click Clone.
Note: Only published Blueprints can be cloned. You can map states across layouts only if both layouts have an equal or greater number of values in the picklist field the Blueprint is based on. Any states you don't need in the cloned Blueprint can be deleted afterwards in the Blueprint editor.
What gets carried over
The transitions defined in the original Blueprint are copied across to the cloned one, and can be edited afterwards if the new process needs something slightly different. Cloning an exact copy, same layout and same field as the original, is also supported if you just want a duplicate to work from.
