Zoho Annotator is Zoho's free screen capture and annotation extension for Chrome and Firefox, and its feature set has grown considerably since it was first documented.
What It Can Capture
- A full page, just the visible area, or a specific part of a page
- Your whole desktop screen or a specific application window
- Delayed captures, useful for screenshotting content that only appears after clicking a link or button
- Screen recordings and webcam video recordings, not just static screenshots
Note: Video and screen recording are currently not supported in the Firefox version; these features are Chrome-only.
Annotation Tools
- Square and circle shapes, and freehand drawing, to mark specific areas
- A highlighter pen to draw attention to key content
- Contextual comments and numbered tags, useful for describing multiple points in a single image
- A blur or smudge tool, for hiding private or confidential data before sharing
Sharing and Uploading
Captures can be uploaded directly to Zoho WorkDrive, Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox, or shared as a link across social platforms and other apps. It also integrates directly with Zoho Cliq, Zoho Connect, Zoho Projects, and Zoho Sprints, letting you attach an annotated screenshot or recording straight to a task, bug, or conversation without downloading and re-uploading it manually.
Installing It
- Go to the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons page.
- Search for Zoho Annotator and add it to your browser.
Privacy Note
Zoho Annotator only stores data locally in your browser by default. It doesn't store anything server-side until you actively connect it to a Zoho or third-party service, and no information is sent to any connected service without your explicit action.
