Column formatting in Zoho Analytics allows you to control how data values appear in your tables and reports. Whether you are displaying currency figures, dates, or geographic coordinates, formatting options help ensure your data is presented clearly and consistently across your workspace.

Accessing Column Formatting

To format a column, open the relevant table, right-click the column header, and select Format Column. The formatting panel appears on the right-hand side, offering options specific to the column's data type.

Numeric Column Formatting

Numeric columns support the following formatting choices:

• Alignment: Left, centre, or right-align values within the column.
• Thousands separator: Display numbers with commas or spaces as group separators (for example, 1,000,000).
• Currency prefix or suffix: Add a currency symbol such as £, €, or $ before or after the value.
• Decimal places: Specify how many decimal places to display, from 0 to 9.
• Negative number format: Choose to show negatives with a minus sign or in parentheses.

Date and Time Column Formatting

Date columns can be displayed in a wide range of formats. You can select from preset options such as DD/MM/YYYY, MMM DD, YYYY, or YYYY-MM-DD, or enter a custom format string. Time components can be included or excluded depending on your requirements.

Duration Column Formatting

Duration columns store time intervals and can be displayed in formats such as hours and minutes (HH:MM), or days and hours. This is particularly useful for tracking project timelines, call durations, or service response times.

String and Category Column Formatting

Text-based columns offer alignment options (left, centre, right) and the ability to truncate long text values with an ellipsis when displayed in table views. This keeps your tables compact without losing data.

URL Column Formatting

Columns containing web addresses can be formatted to display as clickable hyperlinks. You can set a display label to appear instead of the raw URL, making tables cleaner and more readable for end users.

Geo Location Column Formatting

Geo location columns hold coordinate pairs (latitude and longitude). Formatting options allow you to specify the precision of displayed coordinates and whether to show values as decimal degrees or in other geographic notation formats. These columns are used when creating geo-visualisation maps within Zoho Analytics.

Applying Formatting to Reports

Formatting applied at the column level carries through automatically to charts, pivot tables, and summary views that reference those columns. You can also override formatting at the report level for specific use cases without affecting the underlying table settings.
