Zoho Backstage supports markdown, a lightweight formatting syntax that lets you add rich text styling to otherwise plain text. Within Backstage, markdown works in announcements, messages posted in discussion channels, comments left on images in the gallery, and the body text of custom sections on your event microsite. Wrapping a word or phrase in the right set of characters applies that formatting wherever markdown is supported.

Use bold, italic and strikethrough to add emphasis to your text. To make text bold, enclose it between double asterisks, for example **text**. To make text italic, enclose it between single asterisks, for example *text*. To strike through text, enclose it between double tilde symbols, for example ~~text~~.
To highlight a word or phrase as inline code, enclose it between backticks, for example `text`. This is useful for making specific words stand out from the surrounding text.
To set an important quote apart from the rest of your text, use the blockquote structure. Add a greater-than sign before the text you want indented into its own block, for example >text.
To link a word or phrase to another page, place the text you want to turn into a link inside square brackets, immediately followed by the destination URL inside parentheses, for example [text](URL). This displays the enclosed text as a clickable link that takes the visitor to the specified page when clicked.
To embed an image in the text area of any section, start with an exclamation mark followed by the image's alternate text inside square brackets, then the image URL inside parentheses. You can also add a hover title for the image in quotes after the URL inside the parentheses, for example .
