Splitting a ticket is one of those Zoho Desk features that only really makes sense once you have seen it solve a genuine, everyday support problem. This walkthrough follows a realistic scenario from start to finish, as a practical companion to our article on how to split a ticket in Zoho Desk.
A customer emails your support team about an invoice that failed to generate correctly. Two days later, they reply to the same email thread, but this time about a completely unrelated problem, they cannot log into their account. Both issues are now sitting inside one ticket, being tracked against one due date, and quite possibly heading to two different agents who each need to read the whole thread to work out which part is theirs.
The new ticket behaves exactly like any other, complete with its own SLA clock, its own due date, and its own notification trail to the customer, so nothing about the login issue's urgency gets diluted by sitting inside a billing conversation. The original ticket is unaffected and continues tracking only the invoice problem through to resolution.
If the customer's second message is simply a follow-up on the same issue, for example adding a screenshot to the original invoice problem, splitting it out only creates unnecessary duplication and a fragmented view of one conversation. Reserve splitting for threads that are genuinely a separate issue in their own right.
