A sitemap is a file listing all your store's important pages and metadata, making it easier for search engine crawlers to discover and understand your content. Zoho Commerce generates and manages this for you automatically.
Enabling Your Sitemap
- Go to Settings, then SEO, then Sitemap.
- Toggle on Upload sitemap.xml.
It Updates Automatically
Once enabled, your sitemap.xml file updates automatically whenever you add or change content on your store, so search engines are kept current without you needing to manually regenerate or resubmit it each time you make a change.
Note: Having an up-to-date sitemap doesn't guarantee Google or other search engines will crawl and index your pages immediately, or on any particular schedule. Submitting your sitemap URL directly through Google Search Console is worth doing alongside enabling this feature, to help search engines discover it sooner.
Managing Crawlers with robots.txt
Alongside your sitemap, Zoho Commerce lets you add a customised robots.txt file from the same SEO settings area, specifying which pages search engine crawlers should or shouldn't access, giving you control over what gets indexed and what stays hidden from search results.
Other SEO Settings Worth Knowing About
- 301 Redirects. If you remove a category, collection, or product page, go to Settings, then SEO, then 301 Redirect, to point visitors from the old URL to a relevant new page rather than a dead link.
- Custom SEO titles, descriptions, and keywords. Set individually on products, categories, collections, and blog posts, so each page is optimised for what customers are actually searching for.
- Alt text for images. Adding descriptive alt text to product images helps both accessibility and search visibility.
