Migrating Your Support Desk Data to Zoho Desk

Support Desk Migration

Migrating to Zoho Desk, whether from another help desk platform or consolidating multiple accounts, involves getting your existing tickets, contacts, and knowledge base content across cleanly, without duplication or broken relationships between records.

Native import in Zoho Desk

Zoho Desk lets admins import tickets, accounts, contacts, products, tasks, events, calls, custom modules, and knowledge base articles directly. Data must be uploaded as a ZIP file containing one CSV per module, and Zoho Desk automatically attempts to map modules and fields, letting you verify and adjust the mapping before completing the import.

Important: import order matters. Always import Accounts first, then Contacts, then Tickets, and finally any other dependent modules. Importing Tickets before Contacts means new contacts won't be created for those tickets, breaking the relationship between them.

Using an External ID

An External ID is a unique identifier used to detect duplicates during import and to correctly link related records, such as associating a ticket with its contact. If you're migrating from a system like Freshdesk or Zendesk, that platform's own Ticket ID field can typically serve as this External ID.

Third-party migration tools

For larger or more complex migrations, third-party tools such as Help Desk Migration offer a guided wizard that maps fields automatically, supports free demo migrations to validate results before a full run, and can migrate from most major help desk platforms directly into Zoho Desk.
