Fixing "The Email Belongs to a Different Deployment/Region" Error

The Email You Entered Belongs to a Different Deployment/Region

Zoho operates multiple, functionally identical deployments of its products, each hosted in a different data centre region. If you try to register using an email address on one region, such as zoho.eu, while that same address is already registered on a different region, such as zoho.com, you'll see the error "The email which you have entered belongs to a different deployment/region."

Why This Happens

A single email address can only be registered as a Zoho account in one data centre region at a time. This is a genuine limitation, not a bug, since your data centre determines where your account and its data actually reside.

How to Fix It

To free up the email address for the region you actually want, you need to close the existing account on the other region first.

  1. Log in to the region where the address is currently registered, using that email address. If you don't remember the password, use the password reset link on the login page.
  2. Once logged in, go to your Zoho Accounts preferences page.
  3. Find and click Close Account, near the bottom of the page, and follow the instructions.
Warning: Closing an account doesn't just close it; it also permanently deletes all associated data. Before closing an account, make sure you've taken a proper backup of anything you need to keep. If you're at all unsure, raise a support ticket first rather than proceeding.
