Trusted Browsers: Skipping MFA on Devices You Trust

Trusted browsers let you sign in to your Zoho account without verifying with MFA every single time, which saves time if you sign in often from the same computer.

Note: Depending on your organisation's policy, trusted browsers may not be available on your account at all. Ask your admin if you're not sure.

Trusting a Browser

When you sign in to Zoho in a browser, you're asked whether you want to trust it. Click Trust, and you won't be asked for MFA again in that browser for as long as the trust lasts.

Only trust browsers you actually own. Never trust a browser on a shared or public computer. Doing so removes the MFA check for anyone else who later uses that browser while your session or saved trust is still active.

How Long the Trust Lasts

By default, a trusted browser stays trusted for 180 days, also called the MFA lifetime. Once it expires, you're asked again whether to trust the browser, and choosing Trust starts another 180-day period. If you're part of an organisation, your admin may shorten this window through their own security policy.

Removing a Trusted Browser

  1. Go to accounts.zoho.com.
  2. Click Multi-Factor Authentication in the left menu, then click Trusted Browsers.
  3. Click the browser you want to remove, then click Remove.

When a Trusted Browser Stops Working

Trusted browser relies on cache and cookies being kept between sessions. If either gets cleared, the trust is lost and you'll be asked for MFA again. Common causes:

  • A private or incognito window. These don't retain cookies between sessions, so trust never persists.
  • A third-party app, extension, or add-on that clears cookies automatically.
  • Browser settings that clear cache and cookies on exit. Check the setting for your browser:
Google Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and security, then Cookies and other site data, and make sure Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows is switched off.

Microsoft Edge: Settings, then Privacy, search, and services, then Choose what to clear every time you exit the browser under clear browsing data, and make sure everything there is switched off.

Mozilla Firefox: Settings, then Privacy & Security, then History. Under Cookies and Site Data, make sure Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed isn't selected, then in the Firefox will dropdown choose Use custom settings for history and make sure Clear history when Firefox closes isn't selected.

Safari: Preferences, then Privacy, and make sure Block all cookies isn't selected.
