Zoho has announced Zia Chat, described as an AI built for frictionless work. The idea behind it is straightforward: most people running a business on Zoho end up hopping between separate apps such as CRM, Desk, Books and Projects to build a full picture of a customer or a deal, and Zia Chat aims to remove that manual stitching-together of information.
Sales records sit in CRM, support conversations sit in Desk, billing sits in Books, and project work sits in Projects. Staff typically have to switch between all of these, searching each one in turn and piecing the story together themselves. Zia Chat is positioned as a single conversational interface that can pull information, context and actions from every Zoho app a given user already has permission to access.
Because permissions and business context already live on the Zoho platform, Zia Chat is built with a native understanding of how records relate to one another, for example how a particular account links to its deals, its support tickets, its invoices and the employees involved.
Most AI tools tend to specialise in one direction. An assistant built into a single application can go deep on that app but nothing else, while a general-purpose productivity assistant can reach lots of tools but only shallowly. Zoho's stated aim for Zia Chat is to combine both: broad reach across the whole business, alongside context that is native and specific rather than bolted on afterwards.
Beyond answering one-off questions, Zia Chat introduces three additional building blocks:
Zoho has said Zia Chat is heading into Early Access roughly a month after the announcement, launching in English initially. It will run on a Bring Your Own Key basis, meaning a customer can connect their preferred large language model rather than being tied to a single AI provider.
For organisations already running Zoho One or several Zoho apps together, Zia Chat is being pitched as the answer to getting every team working from one shared view of the business, rather than each department working from its own app in isolation.
