Zia Recommendation surfaces relevant product and service suggestions directly on customer records, based on purchase history and behavioural patterns rather than individual memory. It addresses one of the most common inconsistencies in sales teams: the difference between reps who know the catalogue well and those who miss cross-sell and upsell opportunities entirely.
How It Works
The system learns from transaction patterns across your entire customer base. When it identifies that customers with certain purchasing behaviour regularly buy a particular product combination, it surfaces that insight to the sales rep at the relevant moment — creating a consistent, data-driven upsell and cross-sell capability across the whole team.
Industry Use Cases
Zia Recommendation is flexible enough to serve different business models:
- Professional services: Suggesting additional service tiers or complementary modules to customers who have recently expanded usage of a core service.
- E-commerce and distribution: Identifying products frequently purchased together and surfacing them as bundle or relationship recommendations.
- Education and training: Recommending follow-on courses based on what similar learners chose after completing a particular course.
- Real estate and property: Suggesting properties matching a buyer's stated preferences without requiring manual filtering every time.
Five Recommendation Types
| Type |
Description |
| First Time | Suggests relevant products for a customer who has not purchased them before, based on what similar customers bought first. |
| Repeat | Identifies products a customer regularly reorders and surfaces them proactively at appropriate intervals. |
| Relationship | Recommends complementary products that are often purchased alongside something the customer already owns or uses. |
| Bundle | Surfaces grouped items that are commonly purchased together, enabling bundle offers and package deals. |
| Sequence | Identifies the natural next purchase in a sequence, based on what customers with similar journeys bought next. |
How to Configure Zia Recommendation
Setting up a recommendation model requires defining the relationship between three modules in your CRM. The configuration involves four steps:
- Select the source module — what to recommend. This is the module that holds the items you want to suggest, typically the Products module or a custom module for your service offerings.
- Choose the target module — who receives the recommendation. This is the module representing your customers, typically Contacts, Leads, or Accounts depending on your data structure.
- Designate the linking module. This connects the source and target — for example, Deals might link Products to Contacts. Zia uses this relationship to learn which products are associated with which customers.
- Define the completion state. Set the criteria that indicate a successful transaction — for example, a Deal Stage of Closed Won combined with a close date field. This tells Zia which historical records represent genuine purchases to learn from.
Administrator only: Creating and managing Zia Recommendation models requires administrator access in Zoho CRM. Standard users can view recommendations on their records but cannot modify the underlying model configuration.
Where Recommendations Appear
Recommendations surface on customer record detail pages, visible to the sales representative or account manager who opens the record. They do not appear to portal users by default, though administrator configuration can expose recommendations through Zoho CRM's portal features for specific recommendation types.
