Gmail Requires One Click Unsubscribe

Why is One Click Unsubscribe important?

Anyone sending mass Email is aware that there has to be a mechanism to Unsubscribe from future mailings. This is typically a link to an Unsubscribe page. However some companies deliberately make it difficult to Unsubscribe, making you Login to your account (where you may have forgotten a password), etc. This is why One Click Unsubscribe is being made a requirement, make the process simple and fast for the Subscriber. From the 1st of February Google is rolling out a requirement that senders who are sending more than 5,000 messages a day to Gmail accounts must have a One Click Unsubscribe. Other Email providers are likely to follow.

Basic Requirements

The basic requirements for all senders of mass Email, even less than 5,000 mails a day are:
  1. Email Authentication - Ensure you have valid SPF and DKIM records
  2. Low Spam Rates - Google are advising less then 0.3% marked as SPAM measured by Google Postmaster (Zoho Campaigns goes further aiming for less than 0.1%)

Advanced Requirements - Senders More Than 5,000 Mails a Day

  1. Achieve the Basic Requirements
  2. Avoid using Gmail (@gmail.com) or Yahoo (@yahoo.com) as your from address
  3. Implement DMARC policy and ensure that messages pass DMARC alignment
  4. Include a clear and obvious Unsubscribe link
  5. If you regularly forward emails, add ARC headers to outgoing emails

What Happens If You Miss The Deadline?

We would suggest that if you are sending mass email and fail to meet the basic requirements, there is high probabillity that your message will go straight to SPAM. Potentially Gmail would blockk the mail being recieved by the account completely.

Can 1 Cloud Consultants Help?

Yes we can. The good news is that none of these requirements are difficult or challenging to implement. We would ask that you schedule a call and we can discuss what actions and assistance you may need.
