Zoho Creator: Understand Sender Email and Domain Authentication

Every time you add a new sender email address to your Zoho Creator account, its domain is automatically listed under Domain Authentication with a "Pending Authentication" status. This new domain needs to be authenticated using SPF and DKIM before emails sent from it are treated as trustworthy by recipient mail servers.

What SPF and DKIM Actually Do

  • SPF (Sender Policy Framework). Lets the receiving mail server verify the email genuinely came from a trusted server, and that the sender's details haven't been altered along the way.
  • DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail). Lets the receiving mail server validate that the email was generated from a server actually authorised by the sending domain's administrators.

How to Authenticate Your Domain

  1. Go to your Zoho Creator account setup and find the Domain Authentication section.
  2. Copy the SPF and DKIM records Zoho Creator provides for your domain.
  3. Paste these records into your domain's DNS settings, wherever your domain is registered or hosted.
  4. Return to Zoho Creator and click Validate to confirm authentication.
Important if you already have an SPF record: A domain can only have one SPF record in total. If your domain already has an SPF record for another service, you need to add Zoho's value into your existing record using an include mechanism, rather than creating a second, separate SPF record. Two SPF records is one of the most common causes of authentication failing unexpectedly.
