Zoho CRM Kiosk Studio Back Button: Navigate Screens Without Losing Progress

Zoho CRM Kiosk Studio: Navigating Back Through Screens While Preserving Progress

Kiosk Studio guides users through structured, multi-screen workflows in Zoho CRM. Previously, navigation within a Kiosk was strictly one-directional: once a user moved forward past a screen, there was no way to return without cancelling the entire session and starting again. A new Back button now allows users to return to any previous screen, review or correct their entries, and continue without losing their progress.

What's New

A new Screen Controls section has been introduced in the screen configuration panel. From here, you can enable two new options:

  • Back button — allows users to return to a previous screen, with the option to re-run any actions on their way back through.
  • Reset button — clears all values entered on the current screen, giving users a clean slate without affecting other screens.

The Back button option is only available when a previous screen exists. It cannot be enabled on the first screen of a Kiosk.

How the Back Button Behaves

Previously entered data is preserved

When a user moves back through a Kiosk, all values entered on previous screens are retained. Correcting one field does not require re-typing everything else. If the corrected value feeds a downstream screen, that screen refreshes automatically to stay consistent. Any fields that do not depend on the changed value remain exactly as they were.

Background actions continue uninterrupted

Actions already running in the background — such as creating a record or calling a function — are not cancelled or rolled back when a user moves back. The Back button only affects what is displayed on screen; work already underway continues to completion.

Controlling whether actions re-run

If a user moves back past a screen that triggered an action and then navigates forward again, you control whether that action fires a second time. Enable Re-run actions on return to trigger the action again on the next forward pass. If this option is left off, the action does not repeat.

Refreshing GetRecords on revisit

For screens that use a GetRecords component, you can enable Refresh records on revisit. When active, the records are re-fetched each time the user returns to that screen, ensuring they always see the latest data. Leave this off if the originally fetched records are sufficient and a fresh query is not needed.

Behaviour inside loops

The Back button works within a loop, but its scope is limited to the current iteration. It moves between screens within that iteration only and does not step back into a previous iteration.

How the Reset Option Works

The Reset option is configured per screen and is optional. When enabled, a Reset button appears in the top-right corner of that screen during a live Kiosk session. Clicking it clears all values entered on that screen, allowing the user to start fresh without affecting data entered on any other screen.

Example: A bank executive is checking home loan eligibility for a couple using a Kiosk. After entering the husband's details and receiving a result, the couple ask to check the wife's eligibility instead. The executive steps back to the applicant details screen and clicks Reset, clearing only that screen. They then enter the wife's details without having to clear each field individually.

Use Case Scenarios

1. Preserving data entered across multiple screens

A construction engineer running an on-site equipment inspection uses a multi-screen Kiosk to log details for several pieces of equipment. Halfway through, they realise an entry two screens back was recorded against the wrong item. Rather than restarting the entire session, they step back, correct the single field, and move forward again. Every other entry remains in place exactly as it was left.

2. Correcting a value that changes the downstream path

A sales representative running a lead qualification Kiosk selects an SMB budget band early in the flow, which determines the questions that follow. When the prospect reveals their actual budget is significantly larger, the rep steps back to the budget screen, changes the band to Enterprise, and the subsequent screens refresh to present the appropriate enterprise qualification questions. The lead is qualified correctly the first time, without starting over.

3. Re-running an action after a last-minute change

A patient intake Kiosk collects appointment details across several screens, creates an appointment record, and sends a confirmation email. On the final screen, the patient decides to change their time slot. The user steps back to the slot selection screen, picks a new time, and navigates forward again. The final screen updates to reflect the new slot, the appointment is updated, and a fresh confirmation email is sent with the revised time.
