If your business sells different products, serves different markets, or runs more than one distinct sales process, a single pipeline forces you to combine all of that into one set of stages. Multiple Sales Pipelines let you set unique stages for each process instead.
Pipelines versus layouts
A layout is the form used to capture a record's details, and a module can have several layouts to collect different information for different kinds of record, for example separate layouts for ready-made and made-to-order furniture orders. A pipeline is the sequence of stages a Deal moves through, and each pipeline can be tied to a specific layout, so a different sales process automatically gets its own stages depending on which layout a Deal uses.
How to set up a new pipeline
- Open Pipelines. On the desktop site, go to Setup, then Customization, then Pipelines.
- Create the pipeline. Click New Pipeline, and choose which layout this pipeline should apply to.
- Define the stages. Under Setup, Customization, Modules and Fields, Deals, use the More icon and select Stage Probability Mapping to add or edit the stages for that pipeline.
Tip: Avoid ticking Set as Default unless you genuinely want every new Deal to fall into that pipeline automatically, since this can silently assign the wrong process to new records if you have several pipelines in use.
Choosing a pipeline on a Deal
On a Deal record, selecting a value in the Pipeline field determines which set of stages appears for that Deal. On mobile, this works the same way: open the Deal, tap the Pipeline field, and choose the relevant pipeline, and the Deal's stages update accordingly.
Note: After adding or changing a pipeline on the desktop site, force close and relaunch the mobile app before the change will sync and appear there.
