POP3 lets you access your Zoho Mail account from a desktop or mobile email client, downloading messages to that single device rather than keeping them synced across every device the way IMAP does.
| Account Type | Server | Port |
|---|---|---|
| Personal (@zohomail.com) or Free Organisation | pop.zoho.com | 995 (SSL required) |
| Paid Organisation, domain-based address | poppro.zoho.com | 995 (SSL required) |
Use smtp.zoho.com, with either port 465 (SSL) or port 587 (TLS), and authentication enabled.
POP access is off by default on new accounts for security. Enable it from Settings, then Mail Accounts, then POP/IMAP Access in Zoho Mail before attempting to configure a mail client, or the client will fail to connect regardless of how correctly the server settings are entered.
POP3 downloads messages to a single device and, depending on your client's settings, may remove them from the server afterwards, with no synchronisation between multiple devices. IMAP instead keeps mail on the server and syncs changes across every device you use. If you regularly switch between a phone, laptop, and webmail, IMAP is generally the better fit; POP3 suits situations where you only ever check mail from one device, or specifically want a permanent local archive.
