Knowing who visits your website, where they come from, and what they do is the basis of good online marketing. Zoho Marketing Automation, formerly called Zoho MarketingHub, includes built-in website tracking, and shows the results on a dashboard. Older guides called this the web assistant dashboard. In the current product, Zoho documents website traffic tracking under Website Analytics, so this article describes that. We could not confirm that the two names refer to exactly the same screen, so check the name used in your own account.
What the dashboard shows
| Area |
What you can learn |
| Visitors | How many people visit, the devices they use, and their demographics. |
| Behaviour | Daily visit patterns, and the difference between known visitors, whose details you already hold, and anonymous ones. |
| Acquisition | The source and channel visitors arrive through, which shows where your effort pays off. |
| Location | Where in the world your visitors are. |
| Site performance by time | Trends across the day and week. |
What it needs to work
- The tracking code on your site. Without the tracking code snippet on your pages, no visitor data can be captured and the dashboard stays empty.
- Tracked links. To see which campaign or channel brought each visitor, use tracked links. See Getting Started with Smart URLs.
- The WordPress plugin, if your site runs on WordPress. Zoho asked users to update it when the product was renamed.
Goals and lists
You can set website goals, and Zoho Marketing Automation can add visitors to a marketing list when they meet one, as long as their details are known. That connects website behaviour to your campaigns, because someone who reached your pricing page can automatically join a follow-up list.
Reading the numbers: our advice
This section is our own advice, not Zoho's.
- Treat the figures as a guide. Browser privacy settings, ad blockers, and cookie choices mean some visits will not be counted.
- Look at trends, not single days. A one-day spike usually means little. A change that lasts a few weeks is worth acting on.
- Watch acquisition, and put more effort into the channels that bring visitors who go on to sign up or enquire, not just those that bring the most visits.
- Tracking needs consent. Website tracking uses cookies and involves personal data. In the UK and Ireland you will usually need a cookie notice and, in many cases, consent before it starts. This is general guidance and not legal advice.
