Zoho MCP Quick Start Guide

Zoho MCP (Model Context Protocol) connects AI clients such as Claude.ai to your Zoho services, enabling you to automate business workflows using natural language prompts. This guide walks through a practical example: identifying uncontacted leads in Zoho CRM and sending them personalised invitation emails via Zoho Mail, with no manual configuration or intervention beyond writing the prompt.

Prerequisites

  • An active Claude.ai account with MCP server capabilities enabled.
  • An active Zoho CRM account.
  • An active Zoho Mail account.

What This Example Workflow Does

The workflow completes two tasks automatically:

  • Scans Zoho CRM leads and identifies those with a status of "Not Contacted".
  • Retrieves their email addresses and sends each one a personalised invitation to try the service via Zoho Mail.

Implementation Steps

Step 1: Create an MCP Server

  1. Open the Zoho MCP console.
  2. Select "Create MCP Server".
  3. Provide a name for the server and confirm its creation.

Step 2: Add Tools

  1. Navigate to the Tools section within the server and select "Add Tools".
  2. Search for and add the required Zoho CRM tools: getLeadsRecords and updateLeadsRecords.
  3. Search for and add the required Zoho Mail tools: getMailAccounts and sendEmail.
  4. Confirm all four tools are listed and integrated.

Step 3: Obtain the MCP URL

  1. Open the Connect section of your MCP server.
  2. Copy the generated MCP URL. This is the endpoint your AI client will use to connect to the server.

Step 4: Connect Claude.ai to the MCP Server

  1. Open Claude.ai and go to Settings, then select "Customize".
  2. Navigate to Connectors and choose "Add Custom Connector".
  3. Enter a name for the connector and paste the MCP URL you copied in Step 3.
  4. Complete the OAuth authorisation workflow to grant Claude.ai access to your Zoho services.

Step 5: Run the Workflow

With the connection in place, describe the task to Claude.ai in plain language. For this example, you might write:

"Search leads with 'Not Contacted' status, retrieve their email addresses, and send each one a welcoming invitation to try the service."

The AI client handles context awareness, decision-making, and error recovery automatically. No further manual input is required.

Best practice: You can add up to 300 MCP tools per server. Including all relevant tools for your use case helps the AI client complete tasks precisely and reduces the risk of incomplete or inaccurate actions.
