Time Log Grid View shows the time logged against tasks and issues as a grid for the period you choose. In the global Time Log module it offers two views, View by Project and View by User. Inside a project's Time Log tab the two views are View by Module and View by User. Selecting a task or issue opens its details page, where you can see each log entry.
How the page is laid out
- Left side. Add time logs to the selected tasks and issues of a project, or to a General log. Expand the list under a task, issue, or general log to see its logs, and scroll left to see the time log detail columns. In an expanded item you can update the start and end time, and the work hours are calculated from them and appear in the adjacent grid.
- Right side. The date grids, with a summary of time logged for each day along the top. Enter work hours in the date cells beside a task or issue for the selected date range.
Summary Data Label
The Summary Data Label, on the right strip of the page, controls how the daily summary is calculated and shown. You can choose from:
- Total Hours, Total Days, and Total Percentage
- Billable Hours, Billable Days, and Billable Percentage
- Non Billable Hours, Non Billable Days, and Non Billable Percentage
Benefits
- Easier tracking, with less switching between screens.
- Early sight of tasks taking longer than planned, so you can plan and allocate resources better.
- Better resource management and project planning.
Worked example: an architecture project
An architect logs start and end times against design tasks and revision issues from the left panel. A senior architect reviews the entries, spots a wrong end time, and corrects it inline without leaving the view. The billing team scrolls through the left section to check the billable status columns before generating the monthly client invoice. The summary row shows that Tuesday has far fewer hours than the rest of the week, which traces back to a team member who missed their entries after an off-site visit, and they add them from the left panel.
The admin sets the Summary Data Label to Hours for internal tracking during the week, and to Days when sending the client a progress report, because the client measures effort in person-days per phase. In this example the firm halved its invoice preparation time and stopped the back-and-forth of correcting timesheets at the end of each billing cycle.
View time logs
- Go to Time logs in the left navigation pane.
- Select Grid from the view drop-down.
- Choose View by Project for project-wise logs, or View by User for user-wise logs.
- For one project only, open the project, go to its Time Logs tab, and select Grid from the view drop-down.
Add a time log
From the global Time Log module
- Go to Time Log in the left navigation pane and choose the Grid view, then View by Project or View by User.
- Scroll to the project or user, click the Add Time Log field, and select the task or issue. The Recommended list shows your pinned and recent time logs, and in the current month it also shows tasks or issues that had logs in the previous month. Pin a time log to keep it in Recommended, and add filters to narrow your search.
- Enter hours in the grid cells beside the task or issue. After typing a value for a date, press Tab to move to the next date. Changes save automatically five seconds after the last Tab press, provided there is no further activity.
From within a project
- Open the project's Time Log tab.
- Switch to Grid view and choose View by Module or View by User.
- Click the add time log field and select the task or issue.
- Click the grid cell next to the time log to add work hours.
Add a general log
- Go to Time logs in the left navigation pane and switch to Grid view.
- Use the icon next to the Add Time Log field, or click the field and select Add General Log.
- Enter a name for the log and select the project. The time log is created automatically.
The general log is then listed so you can add work hours in the adjacent grid.
Manage, edit, and filter time logs
- Manage. Hover over a time log and open its menu. View Details opens the details page, Copy Link copies the time log's URL, and Trash moves it to the trash. You can also trash a log from its details page using the menu at the top right.
- Edit. Expand the task to see its logs, select the grid cell you want to change, make the change, and press Enter or Return.
- Filter. Use the filter icon at the top right to choose criteria, then apply them to see only the matching time logs.
