If your Zoho CRM account has been around for a while, you may notice that the module most people know as Deals is instead called Potentials. This is not a fault or a different module, it is simply an older name for the same thing.
Why some accounts still show Potentials
Some time ago, Zoho renamed the Potentials module to Deals across Zoho CRM. Accounts created or configured before that change may still display the older name, Potentials, rather than Deals. The two terms are interchangeable and refer to exactly the same underlying module, so anything written about Deals also applies to Potentials, and vice versa.
Why many customers rename it to Opportunities
In practice, many organisations are not keen on either Potentials or Deals as a label and prefer to rename the module to Opportunities, since that is the term their sales team already uses day to day. Zoho CRM fully supports this, as the display name of any module, including this one, can be changed to whatever suits your business.
A note on API names
Warning: Renaming a module only changes its display name, the label users see on screen. It does not change the module's underlying API name. If your module was originally called Potentials, its API name is likely to remain Potentials (or a variant of it) even after you rename it to Deals or Opportunities in the interface. This matters if you, or a partner such as 1 Cloud Consultants, are writing custom functions, building integrations, or working with the Zoho CRM API, since these will need to reference the original API name rather than whatever display name is currently shown to users.
